How Do Food Banks Work?

In partnership with the public and private sectors, New Mexico’s food banks, (501c3 charities) collect, warehouse, transport and distribute contributions of wholesome surplus food, fresh produce and other grocery products to 650 charities in 33 counties. These organizations provide either hot meals or bags of groceries to people in need. Each year this emergency food distribution network collectively serves 238,000 New Mexicans who lack adequate resources to feed themselves and their children. In 2007, New Mexico Association of Food Banks distributed over 6.4 million pounds of fresh produce.
