The New Mexico Association of Food Banks manages two main programs. We are the contractor for the USDA TEFAP Program (The Emergency Food Assistance Program). TEFAP is a Federal program that helps supplement the diets of low-income people by providing them with emergency food assistance and nutrition assistance. The majority of our agencies receive food through the commodities program. To learn more about TEFAP, visit their website.
NMAFB is also the purchasing agent for fresh produce for all of New Mexico’s food banks. Fresh, healthy food is important for everyone, especially vulnerable populations such as children and seniors. Every year we purchase millions of pounds of fresh produce to distribute through our member network. This produce supplements our other emergency food supply sources and is an important source of nutrition for hungry New Mexicans.
